I bought that 08 535 wagon that I bragged about a few times. The last week it has decided to make its bmw high mileage-ness known. The joint on one cv axle went bad to where it felt like a flat. Took it to my mechanic because I needed back on teh road quick. Now I can feel the other one going out. And then last night I started it up and the fan grenaded itself . Have not dug in for damage yet, but I’ve read some bad stuff online. Kind of want to just sell it and fix my e39 and drive it again....

I mean if I had an E61, I would be braggin’ ‘bout that wagon.

Sounds like pretty typical stuff for any car (especially German). I wouldn’t cut bait just yet, personally. Although I’ve never heard of a rear CV boot failing so soon, they’re usually much better than the front boots due to limited travel.

Hopefully the damage from the fan exploding isn’t too serious. On Bimmerforums, I’ve seen the carnage that sometimes occurs. Holes literally blown through hoods, hoses and wiring completely shredded, plastics demolished, etc .
I’d say swap it out with a good e-fan, but they can fail too. Had a 2 speed Spal lose the low speed resistor, then lose the high speed relay all in less than 2 years... And you don’t get much better than Spal fans.

And this is why as much as I love BMWs, I would never own one!

150k+ miles with a tune on it. The weird thing is how suddenly it went, literally <48 hours.

Rule of thumb with anything axle related is to replace both sides at the same time.

Kinda makes sense to replace both tho. As for the fan I had that happen on my z3. Luckily I just needed a new radiator and hoses. I never even replaced the viscous fan haha, after reading that it’s badically a secondary fan that’s unnecessary. Never had issues and the engine sound was much more clear lol, the viscous fan was loud af

As I learned the hard way, there’s nothing more expensive in the world than an out of warranty German car, and part of the reason I now drive a Mazda .
Dad just dumped his beautiful E-class and bought a Volt, of all things, because the Benz was draining his bank account rather quickly in rather large chunks . He does have solar panels on the roof, so he hasn’t had to put a drop of gasoline in it since buying it a month ago. I’m a little jealous...

I’m used to 1-2k every few months. This car is demanding tribute in one lump sum
